Well Drilling School

The association supports this project in cooperation with Deutsche Welthungerhilfe e. V.

It was created by the association EMAS-International e. V. which previously implemented the concept in Bolivia successfully. Until 2014, the project was carried out within cities, the current aim, however, is to implement it also in rural areas.

The basic idea is to build small wells with simple and locally available resources. In order to do so, craftswomen and craftsmen should be trained and in-turn can earn their living thereby providing the citizens with easy access to groundwater. For the wells to have a long lifespan, they need to be maintained and cared for by the respective family.

By promoting this project, the association does not only aim at improving the water supply, but also improving medical care by providing clean water. Furthermore, the project of well construction should lead to diversification and increase in the agricultural production and thus have positive economic spill-over effects through, for example, affordable irrigation systems.
