The project "Girls Empowerment" started in September 2019 and was initiated by our association member Kornelia Holzhausen. The scholarship programme aims to support socially disadvantaged girls in Sierra Leone. The five scholarship holders have now been selected after several interviews and will now receive individual support for one year (after which they can apply again). With the beginning of the new school year, school uniforms, special fees, lunch, transport costs, books and school materials for the scholarship holders will be financed.
A supporting program is currently being coordinated on site, which is to take place every two weeks, promoting the talents of the girls and giving insights into other worlds over a free lunch. The project leaders Joseph Cole and Kornelia Holzhausen plan to invite speakers, hold Skype conferences with young successful women, organize excursions and train the girls in the increasingly relevant field of information and communication technologies. At a kickoff meeting, the program was presented to the scholarship holders and their parents and the first school materials and uniforms were distributed.
