Emergency Response to Ebola Orphans at the UMC Primary School Campbell Town in Waterloo
Another emergency relief aid was sent to the United Methodist Church (UMC) Primary School Campbell town in Waterloo in December 2014. This action was untertaken with the direct contact of the schools Head Teacher, Mrs Saffiatu Turay who happens to be the mother of Mr. Joseph Cole jr, the student receiving a scholarship from our association. Among the over 300 pupils in the school, 50 of them had been badly affected by either losing one or both parents from the disease. The Association supported the children in this difficult time with about € 5,000.00 worth of items. Among the items distributed in the December period were rice, clean water, hygiene kits, clothing, as well as school equipment and toys. Also, a health check was done on the 50 badly affected pupils with a sensitization on how to prevent Ebola. In May 2015, the association has decided to support the orphans in the school for 6 months with a monthly school feeding program. A monthly lump sum of € 1,500.00 to cover food, cloths, school supplies and periodic medical examinations for the orphans was granted.
